Every year NGS gardens across England and Wales welcome about 750,000 visitors. Most gardens which open for the NGS are privately owned and open just a few times each year. Some gardens open as part of a group with the whole community involved. The gardens give all the money raised directly to us (including from the sale of teas and plants); the only exceptions being in some cases they ask that a small proportion goes to a nominated local charity.

Our tradition of opening gardens of quality, character and interest is supported by our Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales.

Did you know that we currently give away more than £2.5 million each year to nursing, caring and gardening charities and we have given them a total more than £25 million in the last 15 years. Our office and overheads are small and most of the work is done by volunteers in our county teams and so currently more than 80p in every £1 raised at garden openings goes directly to our beneficiaries.

事業内容： 園芸植物遺伝資源の調査・収集ならびにその利用技術の開発、園芸植物の品種改良、生育制御・栽培技術、食の安心・安全等に関する研究並びにそれらに関する研究助成を行う。又、それらの研究成果を全国的に普及啓発する事業を行う。
沿革： ・ 昭和22年（1947）
千葉県立千葉農業専門学校（校長武田憲治）教授会は、同校同窓会の経済的支援を受けて、戦後の困窮を極めた経済環境下で園芸研究の充実・発展をはかるため、園芸研究所の設立を決議し、藤井健雄教授を初代理事長に決定した。

昭和24年（1949）
国立学校設置法により千葉農業専門学校が千葉大学園芸学部になったことを受けて、園芸研究所は内容機構の拡大充実を目指して、千葉大学園芸学部長（武田憲治教授）、同校同窓会理事長岩田喜雄氏、同校後援会長大木金二氏等が中心になって「財団法人日本園芸生産研究所」創立委員会を組織した。
　 ・ 昭和27年（1952）
文部大臣より上記財団法人設立許可を受け、理事長：岩田喜雄同窓会（戸定会）会長、所長：武田憲治学部長として、財団法人日本園芸生産研究所を設立し、事務所を千葉大学園芸学部内に置いた。また、設立目的は、園芸の実際的研究ができる人材養成を通して、園芸産業の興隆をはかる事業を自主財源で行うこととした。
　 ・ 昭和27年(1952)〜昭和45年(1970)
この間、歴代の園芸学部長が所長を務め、学部の全研究分野に門戸を開いたが、主として果樹園芸学、蔬菜園芸学、花卉園芸学、植物病理学、土壌肥料学等の研究室が有効活用し、園芸植物の安定生産技術、周年的栽培技術の研究・開発、それに伴う病害発生とその防除技術の研究、園芸作物の品種改良等に実績を積んだ若手研究者を育成し、全国各都道府県の研究、教育、産業界に優れた人材を送り出した。
　 ・ 昭和38年（1963）〜昭和50年（1975）
研究農場と事務所を、現在地の千葉県松戸市紙敷に移し、農業用ビニルのハウス利用実用化試験ならびに施設園芸作物の好適栽培環境の究明に関する研究等を行い、その後の施設園芸の興隆に寄与した。またこの間、共同研究、品種改良の両面で実績を上げてきた、蔬菜園芸学分野が研究所業務の中心となり、他研究分野は経営効率上、徐々に撤退することとなったことと、社会的背景の変化もあって研究所の機能も、人材育成から園芸技術の開発と普及に主力を置くようになった。
　 ・ 昭和43年（1968）〜昭和59年(1984）
千葉大学園芸学部教授藤井健雄が所長に就任し、昭和30年代に発表し全国的に普及をみたトマト、キュウリ品種に加えて、メロン、カボチャ、ピーマンで次々に優良品種を開発・発表し、研究成果である育成品種の普及を通して、全国の各地に野菜の栽培技術を普及させた。
・ 昭和60年（1985）〜　平成8年(1996)
この間、元東京教育大学教授 加用信文、ならびに千葉大学名誉教授 永澤勝雄が理事長に就任し、研究面でさらに拡大・充実した。
・ 平成14年（2002）
設立50周年を機に、新研究棟を落成し、理事長に千葉大学名誉教授 伊東正が就任した。
・ 平成24年（2012）
10月1日内閣総理大臣より公益財団法人 園芸植物育種研究所の設立認定を受ける。

国際園芸家協会とは(About AIPH)

International Organization of Horticultural Producers

The AIPH is a co-ordinating body representing horticultural producers' organizations all over the world. It was set up in Switzerland in 1948 to stimulate international marketing of flowers, plants and landscaping services. An increasing number of growers organizations have joined AIPH with 25 countries represented in 2000.
Member countries pay a membership fee that corresponds to the production value of horticultural production of the country in question.

Platform for exchanging knowledge

The free trade in ornamental plant products is still one of the spearheads of AIPH and is realised via exchange of knowledge and experience. The exchanges take place during meetings at the annual Congress and during theme sessions. The most important AIPH publication is the yearbook containing statistics on production, trade and market developments.
Six standing committees operate within the AIPH in respective fields of breeders' rights, the environment, recognition of international horticultural exhibitions and statistics. The organization works in close co-operation with the international flower trade association, Union Fleurs. AIPH represents the participating countries in discussions with the international bodies like the International Bureau on Exhibitions (BIE), Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and the international organization for the protection of breeders' rights (UPOV).

【沿革】
●平成14年4月1日
東京都農業事務所設置

昭和46年12月１日に発足した経済事務所は、商工・農林部門を総括して多摩地域の実態に対応した産業振興行政を推進してきた。しかし、設立より30年余りが経過し、経済情勢が大きく変化したことから、新たな産業振興行政の需要に対応するため、経済事務所を業態別に再編することになった。

また、現地完結型の事務所をめざして、農林水産部が所管している業務の一部を移管するなど、多摩地域の農業振興の核として機能する行政機関を設けることとした。

●平成16年4月1日
東京都農業振興事務所に組織改正

　農業改良普及センターと組織を統合し、組織名称を変更すると同時に、技術支援事業、苗木の生産供給事業、農業環境保全対策事業などをはじめ、区部を対象とする事業の一部についても農林水産部から事業移管した。一方、農業協同組合等の指導事業は農林水産部農業振興課に移管し、指導事業の一元化が図られた。これらの事業移管に伴い係の設置改廃を行った。

●平成17年4月1日
普及センターの島しょ部門を島しょ農林水産総合センターへ移管

　中央農業改良普及センター所管の大島支所、三宅支所及び八丈支所を島しょ農林水産総合センターへ移管した。

●平成20年4月1日
庁舎移転

庁舎を立川市柴崎町三丁目17番7号から現在地へ移転した。
